Troubleshooting Common Samsung Dryer Error Codes

If you have a problem with your Samsung dryer, newer models display an error code to let you know the nature of the issue. This handy guide outlines the meanings of the main Samsung dryer error codes and gives you advice about how to solve them. Thankfully, most of the error codes are simple to resolve and do not require a technician.

Please note: If your Samsung dryer does not have a digital display, it displays error codes as flashing lights instead. You can find out which error codes the flashing corresponds to by consulting your user manual. 

Voltage error codes (9C1, 9E, 2E, 9E1)

This error code comes when a problem with the dryer’s voltage supply arises. To solve this issue:

• Check that the dryer is on its own circuit and not utilizing an extension cord.
• Make sure the power cord is connected properly and that the right voltage is being delivered.
• Because electricity grids and their rules differ from country to country, you can encounter this error if you take a model outside of the country it was marketed for. For example, if a British dryer is being used in the United States, it won’t work. If this applies to you, you need a voltage converter to fix the error code. 

Door-related error codes (dC, dE, dF, do, d0, 1 DC, 1 dF)

These error codes concern the door, the latch, and the sensors that determine if the door is properly closed. This may occur if the door does not latch, close, or stay closed.

Verify that the door is closed and locked properly, that no laundry or other items are stuck between the door and the opening, and that the latch is firmly fixed.

If the code cannot be fixed or if you see obvious damage to the door or latch, you may need to replace the latch mechanism. 

Jammed button error codes (bE, bE2, bC2, 6E, 6E2, 6C2)

This displays if a panel button is stuck or is being pressed continuously.

If you encounter this error, turn off the dryer’s power before manually pressing and releasing each button on the control panel while moving your finger back and forth to touch each button’s edges.

You might need to replace the control panel if any buttons are broken or if the dryer’s error code reappears after turning on the dryer again.

Temperature error codes (tS, t5, tC, tO, t0, tE, tE3, tC5, tCS, 1 tC, 1tC5, 1tCS)

These show a problem with the sensors used to monitor the temperature.

The most frequent reason is a heat-trapping vent system or clogged lint screen in the dryer. To fix the problem, clean the vent system, lint screen, or both.

If this does not clear the error code, you may have to look into replacing the temperature sensor.

Heating error codes (HC, hE, HC4, 1 HC)

This indicates that the dryer is becoming overheated.

The most frequent reason is a heat-trapping vent system or clogged lint screen in the dryer. To fix the problem, clean the vent system, lint screen, or both.

Low voltage can sometimes be the root of the problem, which manifests as the heater not getting hot enough. You can check the voltage of your dryer with a multimeter to determine if this is the cause of the problem. 

Communication error codes (AC, Et, AE, EEE, AE4, AE3, AE5, E3, 1 AC)

This error code means that the internal parts of the dryer cannot communicate with one another. To clear this code, the dryer should be turned off for 60 seconds before being turned back on.

In most cases, this should clear the error code, but if it does not you need to hire a professional to investigate further.

Frequency error codes (FC, FE, 1 FC)

These codes indicate that the power source frequency is incorrect. Try restarting the cycle to resolve this. As with the codes that indicate communication errors, if this code is not easily cleared, it requires a professional to investigate further. 

Vent Blockage test result error codes (Clg, Cl9, Cg, C9, C80, C8o, C8, C90, C9o, Ct)

These codes appear only after a Vent Blockage test has been performed. You may choose to perform this test if you suspect that your vent is obstructed. The following is a list of the meanings of each individual code:

Clg, Cg – The vent has become obstructed.

C80, C8 – Approximately 80% of the vent is blocked.

C90, C9 – Approximately 90% of the vent is obstructed.

C1, CL1 – Laundry has been detected within the drum.

Ct – The dryer is either below freezing or above 104°F.

Other common error codes

If the dryer displays an error code that is not on the list, the problem is usually with the dryer’s sensors and components.

Here are a few examples:

1 AC7 – Electronic Control Error

3C – Motor Error

HC2 – Gas Ignition Failure

If you receive one of these or any other errors, turn off the dryer for 2–3 minutes, then turn it back on and restart the cycle. If this does not work, consult your user manual for specific troubleshooting steps.
